Permanent residence allows foreign citizen to stay in Belarus 365 (366) days a year and it gives foreigner a lot of rights. At the same time foreigner becomes a tax resident in Belarus.

The residence permit in the Republic of Belarus is a document for identifying a foreign citizen and stateless person in the Republic of Belarus. This permit is given and exchanged by the local migration office where a foreigner is registered.

Permanent residence in Belarus is an identity document of a foreign citizen in the territory of Belarus, confirming receipt of a permanent residence permit.

Obtaining a permanent residence permit in Belarus, in contrast to staying in the territory of Belarus for a temporary residence permit, provides a range of benefits for foreign citizens who intend to reside permanently in Belarus: the ability to carry out business activity not establishing a legal entity; without any obstacles to leave the country and return without a visa (staying in the territory of Belarus 183 days a year), enjoy all social and economic rights on an equal basis with the citizens of Belarus (for example, a right to receive free emergency medical care; a right to education, etc.).

A temporary residence permit is issued by the citizenship and migration authorities at the place of residence of the foreign citizen. The term for consideration of documents is 15 days.

To obtain a temporary residence permit in the Republic of Belarus, a foreign citizen shall submit the following documents to the citizenship and migration authority:

1) Application form;
2) Original passport;
3) Translation of a passport;
4) The lease of the premises (documents of ownership of the apartment (house);
5) Insurance;
6) Confirmation of payment of state duty (approximately 50 US dollars);
7) Documents confirming the basis for obtaining a temporary residence permit.

A temporary residence permit is a sticker in your passport (accordingly, when submitting documents you must be sure that you have several free pages in your passport).

In 2017, there were more than 140,000 different companies operating in the Republic of Belarus, and for 11 months of 2018, more than 10,000 companies were registered in the Republic of Belarus.
Nowadays the procedure for setting up a company in the Republic of Belarus has been simplified as much as possible. In fact, the whole procedure for setting up a company in Belarus is regulated by one law – Decree No. 1 (hereinafter – the Decree) of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated January 1, 2009. This law describes in detail all the procedures for setting up a company in the Republic of Belarus, as well as all the necessary documents for setting up a company in Belarus.

Types of companies in Belarus:

1) Closed Joint Stock Company (CJSC);

2) Unitary Enterprise (UE);

3) Open Joint Stock Company (OJSC or Public company);

4) Limited Liability Company (LLC);

5) Additional Liability Company (ALC).
